Hatchbacks are a type or car that differs from sedans and coupes in having the trunk or cargo volume joined at the back of the car, like one box. That is why a hatchback is a two box car. Hatchbacks are like an intermediate point between a sedan and a station wagon.
Hatchbacks may have three or five doors, and the third or fifth door is usually the one that opens the trunk. Hatchbacks are very popular in Europe but less popular in the developing countries; that is why some makers have made a sedan version of their hatchbacks. Hatchbacks are usually compact cars with one or two rows of seats.
