The numbers of new car companies have been growing in a big scale, and it is impossible to start talking about Car companies without mentioning Henry Ford, a visionary that with his concept of assembly-line construction became the car business in one of the most important; all of this because of its big growth and demand.
In North America, the automobile production market is dominated by what's known as the
Big Three car companies:
- General Motors - Produces Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick and Cadillac, among others.
- Chrysler - Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge.
- Ford Motor Co - Ford, Lincoln and Volvo.
Two of the largest Japanese car manufacturers are:
- Toyota Motor Co
- Honda Motor Co
Japan has gradually supplanted the United States as the leader in the automotive industry. Mitsubishi is one of Japan's premier automobile manufacturers.
Taking into account the slowdown in demand for the products of German manufacturing in both Europe and the United States, the post-Soviet and Chinese markets have assumed a new importance for German car companies on the lookout for new openings.
The biggest upward trend in auto sales has been in China, where government stimulus helped dealers to sell about 13.6 million units in 2009 and an estimated 14 million in 2010. While estimates of its annual unit sales vary widely, China has clearly become the world's largest car market. China's government has a great deal of control over the market, as it may increase sales by encouraging new auto loans, or decrease sales by adding new registration fees or restricting traffic in major cities in order to reduce congestion and pollution.
